Residents brush up on their decorating skills with MITIE and Signpost

Nine residents from Futures at Knightstone were invited to brush up on their decorating skills at a demonstration day carried out by MITIE and Signpost. Employees from Futures and Knightstone Housing Association also attended and were keen to find solutions to their own DIY challenges.

MITIE, Knightstone Housing Association’s Decent Homes contractor, constructed a mock wall to make the demonstration of painting and decorating more interactive. The demonstration covered everything from protection and preparation to filling and covering up, right down to the paint and materials needed to do the job. Each technique was explained in detail and residents were even given the chance to have a go themselves. S

ignpost had created a mobile sink unit which enables the demonstration of carpentry maintenance techniques, including overhauling taps, adjusting kitchen cabinets hinges and clearing reap under the sink.

At the end of the demonstration residents were asked to fill out a feedback form and comment on how they think the day went. Lee Elliot, Regional Manager for MITIE said, “Feedback from the residents and clients who attended was overwhelmingly positive. Many commented that they had picked up new tips and developed more confidence to tackle tasks themselves. We plan to do these demonstration days on a regular basis and are looking to roll them out on other contracts too.”

Sheila Maycock, Resident Involvement Officer and Futures Team Manager for Knightstone Housing Association commented, “I thought the day went very well and enjoyed the expert and professional demonstration by the guys from MITIE. I was also impressed with their people skills and the way they took the trouble to explain the techniques that they were demonstrating at an individual as well as a group level.”

“MITIE also gave away goody bags containing a full paint brush set which was gratefully received by residents. It was a good day, made possible by an active partnership between MITIE, Futures and Signpost.”

We’re the strategic outsourcing and asset management company.

What does that mean in practice? Providing everything from strategic consultancy, to world-class delivery on the ground. From long-term infrastructure planning, to facilities management, property and engineering services. Our strategic input can add value at the highest level, while our practical management expertise can save customers money and maximise their returns.

At the same time, it’s not just what we do, but how we do it that makes us different. Our people are passionate about what they do, committed to working in partnership with their clients, and will always look for a fresh answer to a new challenge.

We work with our clients in three ways; some take full advantage of our whole range of expertise by buying the whole suite, others may only need one aspect of what we do:
