MITIE, the strategic outsourcing and energy services company, has recently been awarded a seven-year integrated facilities management (FM) contract with the Norwegian Maritime Competence Centre (NMK) in Alesund, Norway.
MITIE will provide integrated facilities management, with services to include catering, cleaning, security guarding and systems, technical services, reception, helpdesk, grounds maintenance and energy management. In addition MITIE will also lease space within the building to operate a commercial catering service for the buildings tenants, which will include a restaurant, coffee bar, hospitality for the training centre and catering for special events.
The NMK is a world-leading marine training centre and will be occupied by prestigious tenants including Rolls-Royce. The facility comprises six floors with over 249,615 square feet of surface area, and is designed to accommodate 700-900 people, including delegates from all over the world to attend training courses.
NMK awarded MITIE the multi-million pound contract because of its innovative approach and willingness to work in partnership with the property developer, NMK Eiendom AS, to deliver world-class service.
Ruby McGregor-Smith, Chief Executive of MITIE, said: “We are delighted to be working with NMK to provide an integrated facilities and energy management solution. This is a very important win for us as it demonstrates our ability to grow organically from our initial footprint following the successful mobilisation of Rolls-Royce in continental Europe.”
Kaj B Westre, CEO at Norwegian Maritime Competence Centre, said: “At NMK we’re very pleased that this contract is finalized. This is a large and complex building and our tenants expect top quality from us, so it was important to have an experienced and professional facilities magazine organisation as a part of our team. At NMK we have concluded that we and our tenants alike will be guaranteed service of the highest quality. In addition, we are pleased that we are helping to introduce MITIE into the Norwegian market as a provider of FM services. For this reputable company, this contract in Ålesund is its first with a Nordic company.”

What is MITIE?
We’re the strategic outsourcing company. What does that mean in practice? We manage facilities, properties and assets for our clients across the UK and beyond.
We work with our clients in three ways; some take full advantage of our whole range of expertise, others may only need one aspect of what we do:
Strategy and consultancy
+ Facilities and project management
+ Service delivery
Our strategic input can add value at the highest level by helping clients to manage their assets, while our practical management expertise can save customers money and reduce their carbon emissions. We work with a vast number of clients in every industry across both the public and private sectors and deliver the broadest range of services that can be found in one place: from integrated facilities management to engineering maintenance to lifecycle energy management and much more.
There’s a lot more to MITIE than you probably think. We’re a big company with big ambitions – a leading FTSE 250 support services business, with more than 56,000 people, revenues in excess of £1.7bn, and a reputation for being the best.
