We’re pleased to announce that MITIE’s Technical Facilities Management team together with a number of other contractors working with the Greater London Authority (GLA) have won a PFM partnership Award in the Partners in Public Access Facilities category. 

The successful team secured a well-deserved win for the delivery of Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance undertaken on London’s iconic landmark, Trafalgar Square. Over the last two years the GLA has worked closely with a number of its key contractors to introduce a fundamental change to the management and development of Trafalgar Square as a landmark public space, with all parties cooperating in partnership on delivery of essential services. 

The restoration of the fountains and installation of colour LED lighting by our In house projects team last year, serves as one practical example of the partnership applied. MITIE’s role was the installation of LED lighting and repair of old pipe work, with MITIE apprentices doing painstaking work to reinstate a cascade feature that has not operated for twenty five years. 

The results are the elevation of Trafalgar Square to become the “jewel in the crown” of London’s tourist scene.
