Mitie, the connected workspace and professional services business, has been awarded the President Award at this year’s Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) health and safety awards.
The awards scheme, now in its sixty-first year, is open to organisations of all sizes from a wide range of industries, across the UK and overseas. Through the scheme, judges consider entrants’ overarching occupational health and safety management systems, including leadership practices and workforce management.
The President’s Award is given to organisations that sustain the high standards of the Gold level award for 10-14 consecutive years, demonstrating their dedication to high-quality health and safety management across their business culture.
The award underscores the huge effort made by Mitie’s QHSE teams in promoting health and safety, through initiatives like the award-winning Work Safe Home Safe! campaign, which encourages employees to consider the long-term effects of their actions in the workplace.
Jeff Hilton, Risk and Assurance Director at Mitie, said: “This is a really great achievement for Mitie. We have entered this scheme for ten years, and in each of these years, we have won the Gold award.
“When an external organisation like RoSPA recognises our continued commitment to improving the safety and well-being of our employees, it proves to us that the work being done by our operational and QHSE teams is helping us to achieve a positive safety culture, where doing the right thing is the norm.”
Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of awards and events, said: “The RoSPA Awards are the most prestigious in the world of occupational health and safety, and held in high regard, as winning one demonstrates an organisation’s commitment to maintaining an excellent health and safety record. Achieving the standard required is no mean feat.”
The awards were held on Tuesday 20 June at the ExCeL Centre in London.
