Mitie today endorsed the “Great Business Debate” initiative launched by the CBI aimed at promoting the role of UK businesses and their contribution to society.
The “Great Business Debate” has been set up to encourage discussion between businesses and consumers. The campaign, which will be focused online at www.greatbusinessdebate.co.uk, on Twitter at @bizdebate (#bizdebate) and through a series of public-facing events, focuses on three core areas: supporting jobs, serving customers, strengthening society and earning money.
As a leading UK employer, supporting jobs is a major focus for Mitie. The company is involved in a variety of programmes to promote career development and support employment, including Ready2Work, Mitie’s programme which gives unemployed people from Job Centre Plus an eight-week placement, helping to boost their employability and in over 70% of cases leads to an offer of full-time employment, and Speakers for Schools, a charity providing state schools with talks from inspiring, industry-leading figures for free.
In an article published by the CBI, Ruby McGregor-Smith CBE, Chief Executive of Mitie and Chair of the CBI’s Public Services Board, speaks about the importance of helping people get into and make progress in work. In the article, she says:
“I have been fortunate to discover a variety of the great number of programmes that businesses now offer in helping people get into and on in work. I’m delighted to report that many of these have clearly defined targets that deliver tangible results.
“Support for young people of today, whether in education or the workplace, makes business sense not just on an individual firm by firm basis, but for the competitiveness of the UK economy as a whole. It is only in this way that we will maintain a strong talent pipeline and a global competitiveness that we all strive for.”
