Here at Mitie we’re fully committed to sustainability. From looking after our clients better and doing more for them for less, to nurturing our people’s talent and ensuring they work safe and go home safe, working smarter and using fewer natural resources – all of these things make Mitie the super sustainable business it is today.
A key part of our focus on sustainability in our catering business is where we source food. With this in mind, we have recently been working closely with Sustain, the alliance for better food and farming, to ensure the sustainable sourcing of fish in our supply chain.
Our head of supply chain Doug Gilchrist and director of food Jim Norris recently attended the Fish Forum 2 in London, hosted by Sustain and Raymond Blanc. Here a number of stakeholders across the industry discussed initiatives to improve global fish stocks.
Following this discussion, we have now consulted with our fish suppliers, reviewed our buying list and signed up to the Sustainable Fish City pledge. This will ensure all of the products bought by our chefs across the whole of the UK are sourced from sustainable sources as rated by the Marine Conservation Society.
This is fantastic news for our catering business and yet another way we can add significant value to our clients and customers. Going forward, we will continue to monitor this process with our suppliers to maintain our sustainability values.
Talking about the pledge, Jim said: “I am passionate about sourcing, cooking and serving fish. Teaming up with Sustainable Fish City seemed like a natural thing to do as we hold the same values.”
Doug added: “We are proud to sign the Sustainable Fish City Pledge. The scheme reflects the values held by our sustainability working group and strengthens our commitment to sourcing fish from sustainable fisheries from the UK and further afield.”
