Mitie, the FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing and energy services company, has been shortlisted in the CIPR Local Public Services Awards for its community engagement work in Lewisham.
Nominated in the ‘Partnership Excellence’ category, Mitie and social housing provider Lewisham Homes have been tackling some of the challenges faced by residents such as high unemployment and crime.
Through back-to-work initiatives, environmental and community improvements and youth activities, the partnership is delivering tangible benefits to the community.
The community programme is investing over £130,000 a year, and is notable for its use of branding and demographic profiling to ensure it reaches the greatest number of residents.
In its first year of delivery 20 young apprentices have been hired, 140 residents have attended the back to work clubs and over 400 days of work experience placements have been provided to residents.
Peter Griffin, director for social housing at Mitie, said:
“We are proud of the community benefits this partnership is delivering. Over 300 families have been helped by the programme in its first year which is a great achievement. To be shortlisted for this award is great recognition for all that hard work.”
The awards ceremony will take in Bristol in February 2013.
