Mitie has expanded the self-delivery capability within its contract with Cornerstone Telecommunications Infrastructure Limited (CTIL) – a joint venture between Vodafone UK and O2 (Telefonica) – to welcome climbing operatives to the contract.
The role of the climbing team is to undertake a series of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) routines across the CTIL estate, which consists of circa 21,000 O2 (Telefonica) and Vodafone sites across the UK. As part of this, the climbers will carry out ‘at height PPMs’ which will require them to climb telecommunication towers in order to test the structural integrity.
The team – comprising over 30 TUPE’d climbers, new climbers, and Mitie employees – came together last week to participate in a CLIMB induction, a new technical framework implemented by Mitie’s training team.
Taking place over a three day period, CLIMB contained a number of workshops, covering culture, leadership, innovation, motivation, and behavior, which were underpinned by a range of training courses, including driver awareness, asbestos and risk assessment, and a session with CTIL.
Over the course of the three days, the team was issued with new CTIL branded Mitie vehicles, climbing equipment (facilitated by Mitie’s climbing partner, Total Access), tools and PPE.
The induction saw various parts of Mitie, including fleet, health & safety and training, working in collaboration to ensure that by the end of the induction, the attendees left feeling welcomed to Mitie, and inspired and motivated to commence their respective positions.
Lee Parker, Director for National Technical Solutions at Mitie, said: “It’s been refreshing to see so many parts of Mitie coming together to make this event a success and to ensure that the foundations for our new climbing business are laid. We started this journey just over a year ago, and to see us achieve full self-delivery capability is a testament to the hard work and efforts undertaken by the CTIL team.”
“As we start this new chapter for Mitie on the CTIL contract, we welcome the new climbing operatives and hope they continue to enjoy their time with Mitie as we continue to build on the great work already being completed by the team on the contract"
