A security control room team and a security officer who work for MITIE, the strategic outsourcing and asset management company, have won regional British Security Industry Association Awards for their dedication and innovation within the security sector.
The control room team working at Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, won the South East BSIA Security Personnel Award for best use of technology. The team have been instrumental in ensuring that new technologies have been used effectively to tackle criminal activity. By using CCTV, digital radios and Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) recognition technology, security teams were able to stop the distribution of counterfeit money and help the police recover over £2,000 of fraudulent money.
By coordinating new technologies with traditional security services the team has helped manage a number of incidents to a safe conclusion. In addition to this they are continually trialling the latest technologies such as computerised bollard entry systems, ensuring a safe environment for business owners, residents and shoppers.
Another MITIE winner was Dominic Elliott who won the North West Security Personnel Award for service to the customer. Dominic’s continued professionalism and high standard of work at the Marks & Spencer store in Warrington, Cheshire has not only helped reduce crime, but ensured a coordinated approach amongst security and store employees.
Initially starting as a relief officer in store, after four years of service Dominic has progressed to be the most senior officer within his team. His initiatives have helped to significantly reduce the number of thefts from the store as well as working successfully with police to stop fraudulent credit card transactions.
Commenting on MITIE’s recent award success Jeff Flanagan, Managing Director said, “The BSIA Awards recognise the excellent work and vital contribution that employees within the security industry are making across the country. Both these awards are a testament to our teams who are always looking to deliver outstanding service to our clients.”

What is MITIE?
We’re the strategic outsourcing and asset management company.
What does that mean in practice? Providing everything from strategic consultancy, to world-class delivery on the ground. From long-term infrastructure planning, to facilities management, property and engineering services. Our strategic input can add value at the highest level, while our practical management expertise can save customers money and maximise their returns.
At the same time, it’s not just what we do, but how we do it that makes us different. Our people are passionate about what they do, committed to working in partnership with their clients, and will always look for a fresh answer to a new challenge.
We work with our clients in three ways; some take full advantage of our whole range of expertise by buying the whole suite, others may only need one aspect of what we do:
Strategy and consultancy
+ Facilities and project management
+ Service delivery
In other words, we think, we manage, and we deliver.
The thinking phase is all about finding strategic answers to long-term challenges about assets and resources. Facilities and project management puts those plans in place, and our unrivalled range of services is one of the best in the business.
There’s a lot more to MITIE than you probably think. We’re a big company with big ambitions - a leading FTSE 250 support services business, with more than 54,000 people, revenues in excess of £1.7bn, and a reputation for being the best.
