Mitie has been named ‘Fleet of the Year (more than 1,000 vehicles)’ at this year’s Fleet News Awards. This is continuous recognition for its industry leading fleet, having won the title three years in a row. Mitie was also highly commended in both the ‘Environmental Fleet of the Year’ and ‘Excellence in Fleet Safety and Compliance’ categories as well as being one of the finalists in the ‘Wellbeing and Inclusivity in Fleet’ category.
The Fleet of the Year Awards recognise organisations who have achieved significant fleet success, and celebrate excellence, innovation and quality. Mitie faced stiff competition to be named Fleet of the Year, with big names like the Environment Agency, Ovo Energy and Police Scotland all on the shortlist.
Mitie began its transition to electric vehicles (EVs) in 2018, with over 45% of its fleet now electric, having passed the 3,000th EV milestone in December 2022. In addition, Mitie recently signed a new contract with the Department for Work and Pensions to deliver 250 new electric vehicle charging points across 120 sites, highlighting its drive to not only transform its own fleet to EVs, but to help other UK organisations also make the transition.
In order to accelerate its transition to EV, Mitie has brought a number of large and more specialist vehicles to its fleet. This includes the UK’s first zero emission commercial gritter, ‘Gritter Thunberg’. Mitie has also installed solar panels on the roofs of its Urban Landscaping vans, using the power generated to charge battery-powered landscaping tools and equipment. It has rolled out over 2,000 EV charging points across Mitie colleagues’ homes and customer sites. The award also recognises Mitie’s commitment to improving its driver safety with a recent trial showing that dashcams and artificial intelligence (AI) contributed to a 60% reduction in incidents.
Heidi Thompson, Group Fleet Manager, Mitie, said:
“With thousands of colleagues across the UK relying on their Mitie car or van to deliver exceptional services for our customers every day, we’re very proud to have been recognised as the Fleet of the Year for a third year running. Having recently celebrated the delivery of our 3,000th electric vehicle, and as we accelerate towards a fully electric fleet by 2025, we’re committed to driving the switch to electric vehicles for Mitie and other organisations across the UK.”
