Mitie joins refurbishment framework with London and Quadrant Housing Trust

Mitie has joined a new four year framework to refurbish London and Quadrant Housing Trust homes, alongside three other service providers.

Mitie, the FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing company, has joined a new four year framework to refurbish London and Quadrant Housing Trust (L&Q) homes, alongside three other service providers.

L&Q’s internal refurbishment programme covers four areas across London and the Home Counties.

Mitie has been awarded the largest share of the works for the first year, the Stratford Hub. The work will cover around 725 homes in North and East London as well as areas of Essex, with an expected value of £5.1m in the first year.

The programme will be carried out in occupied properties and will include the replacement of kitchens, bathrooms, new gas central heating systems, electrical rewiring as well as renewal of front entrance doors.

Specialist works will include asbestos surveying and removal, adaptation works for residents with mobility issues, and creating electrical condition inspection reports.

As part of the contract, Mitie has committed to providing opportunities for the local community through an employment skills plan. This will include taking on 18 new apprentices, hosting employment workshops to help residents back to work and offering work experience placements for youths over the age of 16.

A Mitie skills centre will be set up in an L&Q residential area, to benefit tenants by teaching construction or facilities management skills.

Mitie will also introduce measures to reduce the impact of the work on tenants by enabling them to choose appointment times, and using lean processes which reduce the number of visits needed to each property.

Matthew Drake, L&Q head of programme management said:

“We have worked closely with residents to make sure we appoint the most suitable supplier to carry out our new refurbishment programme. We have chosen four suppliers which were chosen on the basis of quality, price and providing opportunities for the local community.

“Our number one goal is resident satisfaction and we are confident that the new programme will deliver high quality products for our residents over the next four years and provide value for money.”

Peter Griffin, director of Mitie’s housing business said:

“We are excited to be supporting the L&Q framework. We look forward to delivering our world-class services, providing value for money and making a contribution to the local communities.”
