Suzanne Baxter, Group Finance Director at MITIE, was awarded the ICAEW Inspiring Confidence in Business Award at a prestigious award ceremony held on the 12th May at the London Marriott Hotel. The FDs' Excellence Awards, supported by the CBI, are designed to recognise exemplary Finance Directors. 

The ICAEW Inspiring Confidence in Business Award recognises Finance Directors who make an exceptional contribution to their business through combining sustainability activities with the overall performance of the organisation. The winners demonstrate that they have successfully placed sustainability at the centre of strategic development and have communicated their strategy to both internal and external audiences. 

Suzanne has worked tirelessly since joining MITIE four years ago, leading and influencing the Group’s corporate responsibility and sustainability agenda. She has worked closely with Ruby McGregor-Smith, Chief Executive, to develop a strategy that emphasises the importance of environmental credentials to commercial success. Suzanne played an instrumental role in the recent acquisition of Dalkia FM and the subsequent launch of MITIE’s CarbonCare product.

As well as embedding sustainability in to the core of MITIE’s strategy, Suzanne’s most notable work has been in the development of MITIE’s diversity strategy, where she has supported and presented on development programmes for female talent both internally and at schools.

Suzanne commented on her award win: “It has been great developing and growing the sustainability agenda at MITIE over the past few years, so to be recognised with this award is a major honour.” 

Ruby McGregor-Smith commented: “Suzanne is a great asset to the team - it is wonderful to see her dedication rewarded with such a prestigious award and I am very proud of her. Her hard work has helped put sustainability at the heart of MITIE’s business, something which is of fundamental importance to both our employees and clients.”
