Mitie employees raised over £35,000 for Multiple Sclerosis Society and Beatson Cancer Charity at an annual ball held at Gailes Hotel, near Glasgow on 5 May 2018.
The black-tie event, now in its fifth year, saw 250 people come together for an evening of entertainment and fundraising. A whopping £35,000 was raised from a prize draw, auction and the generous donations of Mitie suppliers and sub-contractors.
The money raised from the event will be split between two charities chosen by Mitie employees in a poll. This year, the nominated charities are Multiple Sclerosis Society, which funds research and support for those affected by multiple sclerosis, and Beatson Cancer Charity, which works to enhance the treatment, care and wellbeing of current, former and future cancer patients and their families.
The event was organised by Jackie Long, Projects Coordinator at Mitie, who has a special connection with The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre as it is where she was treated for cancer of the throat and mouth. Her treatment was incredibly tough and caused her to lose part of her tongue, meaning she had to undergo speech therapy to learn to speak again.
Determined to give something back to charitable causes, Jackie teamed up with colleague Raymond Murray and other volunteers, to organise the first Mitie Ball in 2014. Since its launch, the annual black-tie event has raised almost £140,000 for nominated charities.
