Ruby McGregor-Smith CBE, the CEO of FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing company Mitie, spoke yesterday at the launch of the ‘Inspiring the Future: Inspiring Women’ campaign, and announced Mitie’s support for the campaign.
The national campaign, which aims to raise and broaden young women’s career aspirations, was launched today with a networking event for 100 girls from 12 state secondary schools, hosted by Miriam González Durántez.
The campaign will encourage 15,000 women from a wide range of occupations to go into state schools in their local communities over the next year to talk to over 250,000 young women about the range of jobs available and entry routes into them.
Mitie people have already begun signing up to the programme, which the organisation supports in addition to its own employability programmes such as the Real Apprentice.
The campaign comes on the back of concerns expressed by the CBI, Women’s Business Council and the National Careers Council that there is a significant mismatch between the career aspirations of young people and the reality of the jobs market.
Speaking at the launch event, Ruby McGregor-Smith CBE, chief executive of Mitie and chair of the Women’s Business Council, said: “I truly believe in the ‘Inspiring the Future’ campaign and we at Mitie are delighted to be supporting it.
“Businesses have a hugely important part to play in offering insight and role models to young people. This campaign presents a real opportunity to inspire, challenge, and help young people to achieve their full potential, which will ultimately help UK business as well.”
