Custom Solar, part of Mitie Power & Grid, and Zestec partner with Merlin Entertainments to complete a major renewable energy project at LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort. The landmark solar PV carport will produce more than 1.1 million kWh of clean electricity each year and save approximately 190 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
Now fully operational, the 1.2MW solar carport is supplying on‑site renewable electricity across the resort, including the Woodland Village, LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort’s carbon‑neutral guest accommodation. By generating and consuming electricity directly on site, the installation reduces the resort’s reliance on the national grid while improving long‑term energy resilience.
In addition to its environmental benefits, the solar carport provides shaded parking for visitors, offering a visible and practical sustainability solution. This project reflects the growing accessibility of large-scale renewable energy for commercial and industrial organisations, enabling them to advance their sustainability goals with the right partners.
Mark Caskey, Managing Director, Mitie Projects, said:
“We’re proud to have helped deliver this landmark solar carport at LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort, with Merlin Entertainments and Zestec Renewable Energy. Together, we’re turning sustainability ambition into action; producing clean electricity, reducing carbon emissions, and supporting greater energy resilience.”
Simon Booth, CEO, Zestec Renewable Energy, said:
“Delivering renewable infrastructure within a fully operational resort demands careful planning and disciplined execution. Working closely with Merlin, LEGOLAND and Mitie, the team prioritised operational continuity and rigorous health and safety controls at every stage. The completed solar carport not only provides clean on-site generation but also demonstrates how energy infrastructure can be integrated seamlessly into complex visitor environments.”
Dare Ilori, VP, Global ESG and Sustainability at Merlin Entertainments, said:
“The solar carport at the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort demonstrates Merlin’s continued commitment to long-term sustainability and investment, delivering the ultimate guest experience. This further strengthens our mission to becoming carbon neutral in operation by 2030.”
