A local man with learning disabilities, who hadn’t left his house in over two years, met his match on a trip organised by Mitie's MiHomecare business, the UK leading provider of domiciliary care.

Pat Doolan and Michele Jones first met when MiHomecare took a group of clients on a short break in 2009.

Five years on, Pat and Michele are planning their wedding and recently celebrated their engagement by hosting a party at a venue in Leigh-on-sea.

When the team at MiHomecare first met Pat, 63 from Rochford, the only interaction he had with other people was a visit from his cleaner for 20 minutes twice a week. He hadn’t left the house in over two years and as a result of not moving around, had lost the ability to walk.

After building a relationship with Pat, the team, which includes his best man and care supervisor Sam Snell, and branch manager turned bridesmaid Jo Fellows, managed to get him out about, walking and socialising again.

Jo Fellows, branch manager at MiHomecare Southend on Sea said:

“It’s been fantastic to see the transformation in Pat and see his confidence grow as he’s become more independent. The team at Southend are extremely close to Pat and Michele and we were honoured to be asked to help pick out their engagement rings and to help them plan their wedding. ”

Pat and Michele, who now live in the same sheltered housing scheme, said:
“We’d like to thank the team at MiHomecare for everything they’ve done for us. Thanks to them, we now lead much happier lives.”
