- Mitie’s catering business wins Best Waste Prevention Project award
- Awards ceremony recognises foodservice companies committed to sustainability
Mitie’s catering business, Gather & Gather, has won an award at the inaugural waste2zero Foodservice Waste Management & Prevention awards.
The first of its kind in this sector, the awards ceremony held on 6 December at the Ham Yard Hotel in London, celebrates foodservice waste prevention, best practise and innovation. In an industry where some of the biggest sustainability challenges are centred around waste, the opportunity to collaborate, acknowledge and promote best practice has been welcomed by the foodservice sector.
Gather & Gather won the Best Waste Prevention Project award in the non-food category, having reduced napkin usage with an innovative ‘Save Our Serviettes’ campaign. The campaign saw the business change to 100% recycled napkins and instigate a reduction in like-for-like napkin consumption by 6.69 million, over the course of one year.
Allister Richards, Managing Director of Gather & Gather, said:
“This is a fantastic achievement for Gather & Gather and we’re delighted to be recognised for our proactive approach to sustainability at the inaugural waste2zero awards. At Gather & Gather we’ve always taken the view that waste prevention rather than management has the greatest potential for positive impact in our business.
“Our unique ‘Save our Serviettes’ campaign demonstrates just how effective an innovative and targeted prevention campaign can be in tackling waste.”
