Entrepreneurs looking for help to grow their businesses will have an opportunity to win a £1,000 cash prize by pitching for two minutes at an event hosted by Mitie and Sheffield Hallam University held at Sheffield’s festival for entrepreneurs, MADE.

Mitie, the FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing company, will host two pitching events on Thursday 20 September, with 12 two-minute pitching slots available at each event.

A cash prize of £1,000 for the winner, and £500 for the runner-up, will be awarded at each session to those entrepreneurs who show real promise and would benefit from a cash injection to get their business going.

The contenders will be able to participate on a first-registered, first-in basis. They will compete for the cash in front of an audience and two judges: John Telling, Group Corporate Affairs Director at Mitie, and Tim Davidson-Hague, Director of the Centre for Facilities Management Development at Sheffield Hallam University Business School.

John Telling said: “At Mitie, we are passionate about encouraging people to start and grow businesses and are always looking for dynamic entrepreneurs to join us.

“We are delighted to support MADE, which is a fantastic event that showcases entrepreneurial Britain, and look forward to seeing some brilliant pitches.”

Mitie has created a £10m fund for new start-ups open to people from both the private and public sectors who want to run a business with Mitie’s support.

Interested parties will be able to register at Mitie’s stand on Thursday 20 September, or can register early by sending a request to entrepreneurs@mitie.com with the subject heading ‘MADE’. The events will be held at the Wadsley Manor room in the TSK Business Engagement Centre at Sheffield Business School, at 1.30pm and 4.30pm.
